A tenet of Judaism is Tzedek Tzedek Tirdof - "to pursue justice." According to the great 12th Century Jewish scholar Rabbi Moses ben Maimonides, the highest form of tzedakah is entering into a business partnership or giving a person a job so that he or she can become self-sufficient. With this in mind, Emanuel Congregation is hosting the 2nd Annual Emanuel Congregation Holiday Market.
This year the focus of the market is on fairly traded goods and supporting local artisans, crafters, and food purveyors. While this event is meant as a fundraiser for the temple, we are hoping to channel this effort into an opportunity for the congregation and the broader community to learn more about the issues of fair trade and the global economy while also doing your holiday shopping.
ell you friends and colleagues! This event is for the whole community so please invite your neighbors, coworkers, or the person you sit next to on the train ride to work.
Wares for sale include: handcrafted jewelry, original artwork, knitted goods, fair trade olive oils and East African crafts, body products, and Judaica. To check out the vendors in advance, please go to our Facebook page.
